Hey there bloggies! It’s been quite awhile since I’ve made an appearance So many things have changed and updates to Olive Hue Paper Goods coming soon.

FINALLY decided on a design aesthetic for the brand. It’s been long awaited but I didn’t want to fully launch without being sure of the choices.

Until those are released, this past December, I helped to throw a baby shower for a dear friend of mine. It’s her first child so her friends and I wanted to make it extra special for her. I put together a little mood board for the ideas and themes swimming around in our heads and we went to work!

The design was based around the theme of the Newsies! I loved that movie and all the costumes! That’s where we started! We decided on bowties, plaid, newspapers, textures, and the all too familiar mustache The amazing photos were taken by husband and wife team Desi & Tammy Mendoza (Dez & Tam Photography). Love how they were able to capture all the fun details! Check out their blog for the extended post of the shower.

Because it was December and a bit rainy that day, we decided to set up a hot chocolate and fixin’s station…had to go back for seconds!

This was my favorite project! We wanted to put together a wishing tree for the baby. I got the idea from Nancy (So Happi Together) when she had held the 1st birthday for her Elle Belle. It was so cute, but using a canvas or a tree wasn’t going to fit the theme, so I decided to look around for some reclaimed wood palettes. I didn’t expect to find one so perfect, but driving around in Hancock Park (of all places!!), there was one just calling out for me leaning up against a lightpole. So on my way to a meeting in a black suit and 3.5 inch heels, I wrestled it into the car…maybe that’s why I love this piece so much. Labor of love…

When we got it home, we left the reclaimed look but spruced it up a bit with gold spray paint dusted along the sides and corners, spray painted gold hooks to hang the signs from and after 2 days, 20 hooks, a sore hand, it was done! Everyone loved it and I wished I took it home after the event!

We made mustache silhouettes and hand lettered each guests name to leave in their mug of their choice…Each of the mugs had different mustache drawn on them with Sharpies…but unknowingly, they probably washed off in the dishwasher. Later I found out that we were supposed to bake them to make them permanent. Oops! Still made fun little takeaways!

We even had a guard dog

A good friend of the Mama to be is a baker and offered to bake delish cupcakes…She made so many different kinds!

A girlfriend of mine describes me as flamboyant because I love me some color! Although, I love how color can make a bold statement, I also love the understatement of these lovely designed wares from the online shop, Merchant No. 4…design beats color in this match.

Cheers to a New Year!

2012!! I can’t believe it’s already a new year…which means new goals to start fresh and start with a bang! For those who know me, last year was a doozy for us. It was a difficult year…a loss of a dear uncle to cancer, a loss of our beloved little doggy, Everest, plus a bunch of different changes that we had to face together as a family. But thankfully, we got through it all and I’m happy to say that I’m looking at this year with a new set of eyes. I can definitely say that it’s going to be hard to pull me down this year. As we’re nearing the end of January, here’s a block of photos that I’ve been taking with my new iPhone 4s (thanks to a very generous Christmas gift from my husband, I’ve caught up with the rest of the digital world!) + Instagram….I’m addicted. really. to the phone + instagram. LOVE IT.

Internship

We’re looking to expand our team and find an intern who wants to learn the design + stationery industry! 3-6 month internships (non-paid) are available. School credit preferred though not required.

Duties will include:

illustrating
typesetting
text proofing
prepping files for print
packaging + shipping
quoting + invoicing

Required skills:

proficiency in Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
great understanding of type design, composition, and color theory
consistent availability
open to new ideas + learning
ability to work independently
respectful, great communicator, exemplary work ethic
tidy + organized
